Residents and delivery service workers in Englewood and West Englewood are on high alert following a series of armed robberies reported by the Chicago Police Department. According to a community alert, perpetrators have been targeting individuals, specifically those employed by delivery services, forcefully demanding their vehicles at gunpoint.
The reported incidents, concentrated within the confines of the 7th District, have followed a chillingly consistent modus operandi, where suspects, armed and masked, confront their victims and escape with their property. This pattern of crime struck these communities with four robberies taking place between December 23, 2024, and last Wednesday. Various locations have become sites of such theft including the 7200 block of S. May and the 7000 block of S. Racine.
Officials have described the suspects involved in the events: three African American males, all donning black hooded sweatshirts, ski masks, and the possession of a handgun. To assist the community and potential future victims, the Chicago Police have listed several precautionary suggestions, such as being vigilant about one's surroundings and reporting doubtful activity immediately.
For those who unfortunately find themselves facing such a threat, the police advise them to remain calm and remember any distinctive physical features of the assailant which could later aid in their capture. Although the instinct may lean towards pursuit, it is crucial to prioritize personal safety instead. All residents in the area are encouraged to dial 9-1-1 instantly if they witness or fall victim to such crimes and if possible, to stay at the scene until authorities arrive to gather necessary information and reports.
