A series of armed robberies have struck the Fulton Market District, West Town, and Near West Side neighborhoods, triggering a community alert from the 12th District Chicago Police. The offenders, who are currently unknown, have been reported to have exited a stolen vehicle, brandished firearms, and demanded personal items from their victims before fleeing the scene. These incidents all occurred on the morning of January 3, 2025, within a brief span starting at approximately 5:38 a.m. and ending around 7 a.m. at different locations across the aforementioned neighborhoods.
The suspect description includes three African American males, estimated to be between the ages of 17 and 23, dressed in black hooded sweatshirts, black pants, and a black ski mask. Exiting a stolen vehicle, they are witnessed engaging in armed robberies, after which they take off and return to the vehicle to make their escape.
In light of the robberies, the Chicago Police Department has outlined measures for residents to help maintain safety and aid in the apprehension of the suspected individuals. The public is advised to remain vigilant, to be cautious of any individuals attempting to engage in unsolicited interaction, and to remain composed should they face a potential assailant. Immediate contact with the police is recommended if one becomes a victim of such a crime, making sure to avoid tampering with anything that might serve as evidence.
Moreover, in the event of witnessing any such crime, individuals are urged to dial 911, with detailed descriptions of the offenders, vehicles, and, when available, license plate numbers can prove invaluable. Additionally, witnesses are encouraged to remain present at the crime scene whenever possible, or at the very least, leave behind contact information for investigative follow-up. According to officials, this sort of engaged citizenship can be critical in community efforts to thwart the efforts of those preying on the vulnerable.
