Chicago residents and CTA Red Line commuters are urged to stay vigilant following a series of forceful robberies, according to a recent community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department. The string of incidents occurred along the Red Line between the Cermak and 95th Street stations, where individuals described as African American males, aged between 15 and 25, have been confronting passengers and demanding their personal belongings.
The reported robberies took place on December 20, 2024, at 138 W Cermak Rd at approximately 10:23 p.m., on December 29 at 15 W 79th St close to 11:00 p.m., and another that evening at 15 W 95th St at 10:52 p.m. The offenders, whose heights and weights vary, are said to take items by force when passengers do not immediately comply with their demands.
Law enforcement is encouraging the public to maintain a heightened sense of awareness when using the train services and to report any suspicious activity by dialing 9-1-1. Commuters are also advised to avoid chasing after any fleeing suspects to ensure their safety.
