Clarksville residents are bracing for a significant winter storm forecasted for tomorrow, with snow accumulations predicted to range between 4 to 8 inches. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the region, which includes Clarksville and parts of middle Tennessee. Starting at 6 a.m. on January 10, 2025, the Watch will stay in effect until the following morning at 6 a.m., according to a Clarksville official release.
The issuance of a Winter Storm Watch indicates a 50% or higher chance of severe winter weather occurring, which provides residents with time to prepare. This Watch could escalate to a Winter Storm Warning or a Winter Weather Advisory, the latter of which signals an 80% probability, that hazardous conditions are expected to materialize. Clarksville's Public Safety departments have been put on alert, and the City is gearing up its snow removal operations. The Street Department is ready to deploy salt trucks and plows to clear snow from city streets, in anticipation of the winter weather.
Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts has stated, "We are watching and fully preparing for this predicted winter storm in the City of Clarksville, and our outstanding Street Department is equipped and ready to make our streets safe for travel." Working in tandem with the Tennessee Department of Transportation, which handles state highways, and the Montgomery County Highway Department responsible for county roads outside city limits, Clarksville is taking a coordinated approach to the snow event.
The mayor has also made a public appeal for cooperation. "We need the public’s help. We ask that cars in our City’s neighborhoods not be parked along the streetsides," Mayor Pitts said. This request aims to keep the roads clear and enable salt trucks, and snow plows to operate more efficiently in residential areas. Beyond just street clearing, Mayor Pitts is calling on citizens to extend a helping hand to their neighbors, with provisions, shelter, and essentials. He also urges responsible pet ownership by ensuring that animals are brought indoors and protected from harsh conditions.
