Heads up, Cookeville drivers: part of Shag Rag Road is shutting down for a couple of days. According to the City of Cookeville, the stretch between Bowser Road and Reserve Drive will be closed to traffic from today through Friday. The closure begins each morning at 8:05 a.m. but reopens for the after-school rush at 2:55 p.m.
The temporary inconvenience is due to installing a new water line that requires cutting across the street. Consequently, all drivers are advised to steer clear of this area during the closure times. They'll need to find alternate paths that are clearly outlined. Reserve Drive, Mountain View Drive, and Bowser Road are set to be detours and lifelines for the local commuting population.
This civic upgrade might not bode well for the morning hustle or lunch-hour errands. But you'll be good to go once the clock ticks past the 2:55 p.m. mark. The city plans to use road plates to cover the worksite, ensuring that the daily flow of cars and school buses won't be interrupted in the afternoon.
