A Coral Springs man has been arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a firearm following a road rage incident last Thursday, January 23. The suspect, 64-year-old Eric Johnston, is reported to be an emergency room nurse at Broward Health Coral Springs, according to TAPinto Coral Springs.

The confrontation occurred around 3:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of University Drive, where Johnston was involved in a verbal dispute with another driver at a red light. According to Coral Springs Talk, the victim claimed that Johnston made an obscene gesture before retrieving a gun from his car's center console and pointing it at him. After speeding off and swerving in front of the victim's vehicle, Johnston made the threatening gesture with his middle finger as the altercation persisted near the site of a car accident.

Following the road rage incident, Johnston was located by Coral Springs Police Department's Strategic Enforcement Team in the parking lot of a Bank of America. The location was not far from the initial scene, and Johnston matched the description of the suspect's vehicle provided by the victim.

While the suspect admitted to having a gun in his vehicle, which he told officers "might have seen". Johnston declined to provide his side of the story when taken into custody. After Eric Johnston's arrest, he was booked into the Broward County Main Jail. Johnston has since been released on bond according to court records, pending the outcome of his case, as reported by TAPinto Coral Springs.
