In a shocking act of violence against a pet, a Coral Springs man now faces charges after being arrested for the alleged abuse of his one-year-old dog. According to the Coral Springs Talk, 28-year-old Marco Zuluaga was charged with cruelty to animals following an incident caught on video, where he is accused to have forcefully slammed his Australian Shepherd, named Lilly, onto a concrete surface after the puppy had an accident indoors.
The alleged abuse took place at the Jamison Loop Apartments in Kissimmee last Thursday. Osceola County Sheriff's Office received a complaint and responded to the scene, supported by surveillance footage provided by the property's management. In the distressing video, Lilly, clad in a Christmas sweater, appears to be thrown into a balcony railing and subsequently onto the concrete below. Sheriff Marcos Lopez expressed his dismay over the situation, stating to MySuncoast, "The amount of force he uses is just disgusting, disturbing, and unacceptable, and it's a miracle he didn't kill that dog."
“When we asked Mr. Zuluaga why he did this, he said that he did it because ‘She pooped and peed on the rug.’ Really? Come on man, this is horrible,” Sheriff Lopez stated, as per Coral Springs Talk. However, the authorities found this reasoning to be completely inadequate and have taken steps to ensure Zuluaga will not be soon able to have contact with any animals, as part of the conditions of his release.
Lilly, despite the violent encounter, is expected to recover fully from her injuries, which included deep tissue bruising and a dilated pupil, as reported by MySuncoast. She has since been receiving veterinary care and is undergoing a re-homing process to find a safer, more loving environment. “Lilly is safe from harm and will never return to that monster,” Sheriff Lopez added.
