The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert for residents of the Bronzeville and Hyde Park neighborhoods following a string of recent robberies. The alert, which covers the 002nd (Wentworth) District, was posted with an advisory for everyone in the affected areas to increase their vigilance, particularly when traveling by public transportation.
A series of incidents have been reported, in which victims were confronted while aboard a CTA bus. The perpetrators, ranging from one to three individuals, demanded personal belongings and threatened bodily harm before fleeing the scene. The Chicago Police noted these robberies occurred at various locations and times across the aforementioned neighborhoods. The most recent of which took place on the 5500 block of south Lake Park Ave. on January 13, 2025, at around 5:30 P.M.
Descriptions of one of the offenders have been released to the public. Notably, he is identified as an African American male, anywhere between the ages of 16 and 25. In the hopes of apprehending the suspect(s), authorities urge anyone with information or who witnesses suspicious activities to come forward immediately and contact law enforcement.
To better ensure personal safety, the community alert advises residents to always be conscious of their surroundings and to remember any unique characteristics of potential assailants. Should anyone find themselves in a confrontation, the recommendation is to stay calm and never chase after a fleeing perpetrator. Victims or witnesses should "Dial 9-1-1 immediately and remain on scene when possible," as stressed in the police notification. Prompt and detailed reporting can assist in the swift resolution of these distressing incidents.
