The City of Dallas continues to extend a helping hand to its homeless population amid persistent frigid conditions. According to a bulletin shared by the City of Dallas, the Office of Homeless Solutions (OHS) is keeping the Temporary Inclement Weather Shelter (TIWS) operational this week, with shelters set to remain open until overnight temperatures rise above freezing. Locations such as Fair Park Grand Place and Austin Street II are listed as intake sites, with specific hours for those seeking refuge from the cold. The City is also distributing cold weather packs at various recreational centers to assist individuals who may refuse traditional assistance.
With community support at the forefront, the OHS is also seeking volunteers to aid in the operation of the inclement weather shelters, urging those interested and over the age of 18, to register through their online portal. In addition to aid provisions, an invitation has been extended for volunteers to partake in the Office of Homeless Solutions Fund, while also providing sponsorship opportunities to supply meals for workers and volunteers at the shelters. The emphasis on volunteerism and donations spotlight the City’s proactive approach in not just offering immediate relief but fostering a sense of community involvement in the process.
Dallas upholds efforts to promote safety and well-being across the board, offering tips for staying safe in wintry weather and providing a list of closures due to inclement weather conditions. The City is also actively working towards the betterment of its communities by hosting the 6th Annual Equity Indicators Symposium, which aims to connect, communicate, and collaborate with stakeholders on the Equity Indicators Report, as stated in a recent press release.
