In a community where the fight against hunger is a relentless journey, Damien's Food Pantry has crafted a partnership that casts a new net of hope. The pantry teamed up with Joby Norton of Mullaney's Seafood to bring nutritious, farm-raised tilapia to the tables of many in need throughout Plymouth County. This collaboration was recently announced on The Plymouth County Sheriff's Department's social media with a message that underscores their mission: "No One Goes To Bed Hungry."
The aquaponics operation, an innovative sustainable farming endeavor at the Sheriff's Department, provided its first batch of mature tilapia fish, prepped for distribution by Norton's team at Mullaney's Harborside Fish Market, while Damien's Food Pantry made sure the high-protein seafood reached people battling hunger across various communities including Acushnet, Buzzards Bay, Dartmouth, and more.
With its roots firmly planted in areas such as New Bedford and Wareham, Damien's Food Pantry has built its reputation on serving all who arrive for aid, and this latest endeavor is no exception. Lettuce has been regularly donated by the Sheriff's Department to Damien's throughout the year, setting a precedent of mutual support and now the partnership has expanded to include seafood, which promises a richer variety of nutrition to those who have too often felt the sharp pangs of food scarcity.
Expressions of gratitude have been widely shared, highlighting the communal effort and the spirits involved; as posted on The Plymouth County Sheriff's Department's Facebook page, "Thank you Joby Norton, Damien’s and our Captain Dave Rose for working together and helping with this important work." Though this fish distribution marks a new chapter, it's evident that the solidarity witnessed here is not an end but a continuing promise, Stay tuned, more to come on this project – ensuring that in the effort to curb hunger, no stone is left unturned, and no table is left barren.
