Shoppers at a Davie Costco had their bulk-buying cut short today when an anonymous call prompted a full-scale police response and evacuation of the store located at 1890 S. University Drive. The anonymous tipster, claiming a threat had been planted within a food container, forced law enforcement to err on the side of caution, according to a report by WSVN.
Upon receiving the call around 11 a.m., Davie Police Department officers, accompanied by canine units, swept the store's interior to ensure the safety of everyone present, as shown in aerial images captured by Chopper 6 from NBC Miami. Their diligent search yielded no dangerous devices, and, fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. Law enforcement blocked the store entrance. The area, normally busy, showed extra security. Customers returned after the emergency response ended, and the store resumed normal operations.
While the threat appeared to be a false alarm, the investigation persists as law enforcement continues to piece together the culprit behind the anonymous call. Authorities have not identified any suspects nor have they indicated an ongoing search, but they remain vigilant in the face of any potential threat to community safety.
