
A tragic accident occurred just outside of Springfield in the 4700 block of Highway 161, where two children, aged four and seven, were killed in a rollover crash on Friday evening, as reported by WSMV. A man has since been charged in connection with the fatal incident.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified the driver as 36-year-old Lukas Mansfield, according to information obtained by Smokey Barn News Mansfield was reportedly driving his vehicle, a 2022 RAM 1500 pickup truck, when he veered off the road and struck a culvert subsequently the truck became airborne and collided with a utility pole. The two victims were passengers in the truck at the time of the crash.
The individuals deceased in the crash were identified as Miah Mansfield, 7, and her younger brother Jackson, 4, both attended South Haven Christian School in Springfield as Smokey Barn News noted, quoting a statement from the school, "It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we write to inform you of a tragic event that has deeply affected our school family. Yesterday evening, we lost two of our own, Miah Mansfield and her younger brother Jackson, two of our beloved students, who passed away following a tragic accident."
Mansfield is facing two counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and a third count of driving under the influence, with this being his third offense. FOX17 reported that neither of the children were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash Mansfield had his seatbelt on, according to preliminary reports by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. He is currently held in the Robertson County Jail, with a bond set at $10,000 for the DUI charge and no bond yet set for the homicide charges.
