Susan Figuerido, a 73-year-old woman from Falmouth, was sentenced to two years in prison for embezzling over $1.3 million from the flooring company where she worked as a bookkeeper. She was also ordered to serve two years of supervised release and pay restitution of $1,714,921.01, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
From June 2015 to February 2023, Figuerido embezzled $1.3 million from her employer by writing checks to herself and hiding the transactions in the accounting system. She also failed to report the stolen money on her tax returns, causing a tax loss of $353,000. In October 2024, she pleaded guilty to wire fraud and filing a false tax return, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy, along with FBI and IRS officials, announced the sentencing of Figuerido for embezzlement after a joint investigation involving multiple agencies, including the Falmouth Police Department. The case, prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristen A. Kearney, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
