A rear-end collision involving two tractor-trailers on Florida's Turnpike in Northwest Miami-Dade resulted in one fatality today, authorities confirmed. The accident took place near the Golden Glades Interchange, where the Turnpike intersects with the Palmetto Expressway. WSVN reported significant damage to both trucks, with one having its front end crumpled and the other jackknifed.
Florida Highway Patrol officials confirmed the fatality but did not release additional details. A yellow tarp, believed to cover a body, was seen at the scene, as captured by Chopper 6, according to NBC Miami. Another vehicle was also involved, spinning off the highway and resting in the grass.
The southbound lanes of the Turnpike were closed, causing significant delays and congestion. Motorists were advised to find alternative routes. Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene to assist with the situation and assess any additional injuries.
