The Maricopa County Attorney's Office delivered justice as Jacob Lozano, born December 2000, received a sentence of 32 years in prison for the predatory acts of luring three young boys he contacted through online gaming platforms and social media; his exploits began to unravel after an alert mother found disturbing content on her son’s phone and alerted authorities, leading to an intensive investigation.
In a case that highlighted the dark side of digital interactions, the Scottsdale Police Department, following a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, uncovered sexually explicit messages and images sent by a Florida resident to an 11-year-old boy. The child had been introduced to Lozano while playing Fortnite. During their investigation, authorities used an undercover detective who impersonated the young victim, keeping Lozano engaged and unaware that the law was closing in on him.
This concerted effort between law enforcement and vigilant parents underscored the predatory nature of online predators, as captured in the words of County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, "Jacob Lozano found a child’s online playground and used it as a means for his own gratification," as reported by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office.
The consequences of Lozano’s actions culminated in guilty pleas to serious charges, including two counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, a Class Two Felony, and three counts of Attempt to Commit Aggravated Luring of a Minor, a Class Three Felony.
