Fort Lauderdale residents can expect some detours and nighttime construction activity soon, as the city commences a much-needed upgrade to its stormwater infrastructure on Galt Ocean Drive. The construction, starting the week of January 13th, is part of an effort to replace approximately 350 feet of 36-inch stormwater pipeline and repair related structures, according to an announcement on the City of Fort Lauderdale's official website.
The project not only focuses on the infrastructure overhaul but also includes the restoration of asphalt where necessary. Slated for completion by early February 2025, these repairs are scheduled to take place at more congenial hours, from Monday to Friday between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., when the least traffic disruption is anticipated. Restoration work, on the other hand, will occupy the more standard work hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Keep in mind, this schedule is subject to shifts owing to the whims of weather or other unforeseeable hiccups.
For those who frequent Galt Ocean Drive, expect partial closure of the southbound lane during the project's duration. Traffic control personnel will be onsite to guide vehicles and maintain access to the area. Motorists are advised to heed the posted signs and drive cautiously around the construction zone. "Thank you for your patience as we strive to upgrade our stormwater system as quickly as possible," urges the City of Fort Lauderdale's notice.
