Over the weekend, an incident at a Spring Hill auto repair shop prompted an investigation by local fire departments. WSMV reports that on Saturday night, workers noticed a strong odor of smoke in the Main Street business area. After calling the Spring Hill Fire Department (SHFD), crews arrived to find thick black smoke at the roofline from two sides of the building.
Further details by Williamson Source described how the SHFD quickly escalated the situation to a commercial structure fire, which resulted in a full department response. Assistance was provided by Columbia Fire Rescue, and the Maury County Fire Department maintained city-wide stand-by coverage.
The source of the smoke was traced to a heating malfunction in an oil burner. The Spring Hill Fire Department's Facebook page confirmed, "After a thorough investigation it was determined that a heating malfunction in an oil burner had caused the smoke conditions and no other hazards were found in the building." The teams operated on the scene for 40 minutes.
No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident. The situation reminds local businesses to regularly maintain their heating systems, particularly during colder months when such equipment is used.
