In an announcement that marks the end of an era for the City of Kannapolis, the beloved Jiggy with the Piggy Festival will no longer be hosted by the municipality. As reported by the City of Kannapolis, a decade of transformation in the city's downtown area has shifted the community's needs and focus. Originally conceived as a draw for visitors to an emerging downtown, and to exhibit its potential to investors, the festival has completed its mission, coinciding with significant development in the city's core.

The decision comes as Kannapolis has successfully revitalized its downtown. With the establishment of the Atrium Health Ballpark and other developments like the West Avenue linear park, the city finds itself boasting over 40 new businesses and a thriving residential community. The time and resources committed to Jiggy with the Piggy, according to city officials, no longer yield the benefits they once did as the festival was originally designed to support the downtown while it was still in early stages of growth.

With the 10th anniversary event in May 2024 serving as the last edition, the city is redirecting its efforts towards more cost-effective and varied events. These smaller-scale activities are envisioned as collaborations with local businesses and organizations, like Downtown Kannapolis Inc. and the Cannon Ballers. With the winding down of Jiggy with the Piggy, which attracted visitors from far and wide, the town aims to employ a strategy that continues to drive economic development while focusing on revitalizing other city areas in need.

Despite the discontinuation of Jiggy with the Piggy, the City of Kannapolis has affirmed that it will maintain its slate of community offerings. Celebrated events like the Summer Concert & Movie Series and the Celebration of Lights are still on the calendar. In their statement, the City extended gratitude toward all who supported the festival over the years, contributing significantly to the downtown's renewal process.
