For those aiming to influence the future of Lewisville, the window to step into the political arena has been officially declared open. Beginning January 15, residents with an eye for City Council seats can file to join the race for upcoming elections. Desired positions include City Council Place 4, currently occupied by Brandon Jones, Place 5, with Kristin Green at its helm, and Place 6, where Patrick Kelly presides. Each seat is pivotal, carrying a three-year term, a period ample enough to mold the city's trajectory, influence policy, and anchor the community's representation across the city's lively districts, as per the City of Lewisville.
It's a local process, grounded in the geography of home; candidates must originate from, and live within, the district they wish to represent. They are, however, elected at large, a nod to the collective voice rising above lines drawn on a map. With early voting slated for April 22 to April 29, and the actual Election Day set for May 3, the anticipation within the community is, palpable.
Lewisville's City Hall will morph into a hub of democratic action, accepting applications for ballot placement at 151 W. Church Street. Aspiring candidates can submit during the hustle of regular business hours: Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and into the calm of Friday morning between 7:30–11:30 a.m. Those stepping into the fold must meet specific criteria: be a qualified voter, have resided in Lewisville for at least one year before the election day, and they must not be enmeshed in obligations like back taxes or other financial dues to the city. Equally, employment with the city must be paused, as to serve on the council is to commit without divided interests.
