Los Angeles residents can expect a damp end to their January with showers and the potential for a thunderstorm in the forecast. Beginning today, there's a "20 percent chance of showers after 10am," with the day likely seeing a peak temperature hovering around 60 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The South southeast wind could reach speeds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts that might hit as hard as 20 mph. Tonight, the chance of precipitation jumps to 80%, with new rainfall amounts expected to be between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, though higher amounts are possible if a storm hits.
Moving into Sunday, the weather outlook appears to be more tumultuous. The National Weather Service anticipates "Showers and possibly a thunderstorm," with a similar chance of precipitation as the evening prior—sitting at a stiff 90%. Though temperatures will drop slightly to a high near 55, wind conditions will mirror Saturdays with a South southeast wind of around 10 mph and occasional gusts reaching 15 mph. New rainfall amounts for Sunday could be similar to today's, however, in case of thunderstorms, there could be higher amounts.
The wet conditions are set to persist into the start of the new week. Monday's forecast suggests a 70% probability of showers, with the potential for another thunderstorm, and a daytime high around 56 degrees. Winds will take a slight shift, coming from the east-northeast at a speed of 5 to 10 mph before swinging South in the afternoon. Rainfall amounts are predicted to continue in the range of a tenth to a quarter of an inch, higher in thunderstorms.
By Monday night, the likelihood of showers diminishes to 40% before 10 pm, as the sky is expected to clear up heading into Tuesday. The following days offer a break from the rain. Tuesday holds a mere "20 percent chance of rain after 10am" with mostly sunny skies and a high near 58. The clear pattern is expected to roll through the next days with sunny conditions and rising temperatures reaching a 65 high by Thursday. While a slight cooldown is anticipated for Friday, partly sunny skies and a high near 62 will still provide a comfortable backdrop to round out the week.
