
Tragedy struck just as the New Year unfolded in San Francisco's Mission District. The city's first recorded homicide of 2025 claimed the life of a man at a gas station on South Van Ness Avenue mere minutes after the stroke of midnight. As reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, police arrived at the scene at approximately 12:25 a.m., where they discovered an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate aid rendered by responders, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The San Francisco Police Department acted swiftly to successfully locate an SUV believed to have fled after the shooting quickly. Found near Bayshore Boulevard and Geneva Avenue, the vehicle contained the suspect, 29-year-old Jose Rivera Flores, who was then arrested without further incident. According to Mission Local, Flores was booked into San Francisco County Jail on homicide charges at 7:31 a.m. on Jan. 1.
While an arrest has swiftly been made in connection to this violent incident, the SFPD emphasizes that the investigation remains ongoing and open. The identity of the slain man has not yet been made public as the case continues to unfold. The police urge anyone with potentially relevant information to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry.
