A fatal incident on Interstate 95 in Broward County halted traffic and has spurred an ongoing investigation following a shooting last night. Local 10 reports that the shooting took place in the southbound lanes north of Oakland Park Boulevard and resulted in one man's death, a detail confirmed by the Broward Sheriff's Office.
Responding to the chaos, multiple agencies, included BSO Oakland Park District deputies, Florida Highway Patrol troopers, and the Fort Lauderdale police were on the scene, according to information obtained by Local 10. Found at the scene, the victim was transported to a hospital where he later died, yet as of Monday morning, no identity has been disclosed.
The aftermath of the incident saw a shutdown of all southbound lanes on I-95 for an estimated four hours, causing considerable traffic to back up for miles. NBC Miami added that the lanes between Cypress Creek Road and Oakland Park Boulevard were closed during the investigation, and that some motorists found themselves stuck for several hours.
While detectives are interviewing witnesses, no suspect information has been released at this time. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the neck, as revealed by Oakland Park Fire Rescue and reported by NBC Miami.
