Earlier today, tragedy struck in Southwest Miami-Dade when a man's life was claimed after his vehicle plunged into a lake following a crash. The incident happened at approximately 2:40 a.m. near the intersection of SW 167th Avenue and 42nd Lane, just south of Bird Road. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR) reported that the driver, operating a Nissan SUV, burst through a barrier and ended up in a body of water adjacent to the Towns at Grand Lake Estates community, as confirmed by NBC Miami.
According to officials, deputies from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office along with a dive team responded to the scene. After recovering from the water, they rushed the driver to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. Local law enforcement has yet to release the identity of the deceased, and the cause of the accident remains a matter under investigation, as stated by Local 10.
The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel and sheriff's deputies were promptly at the scene. With the SUV submerged, divers meticulously combed the canal to ensure no other passengers were trapped within the vehicle or in the surrounding water. They confirmed the driver was the sole occupant of the Nissan SUV.
The circumstances that led the SUV to career through the barrier and into the canal's embrace remain unknown.
