The winning ticket, punched with the numbers 17, 22, 23, 36, 37, and 44, was purchased at Rockland Liquors, located on Market Street in Rockland, as detailed in a report by Boston 25 News.
Not only did this win notch up a record for the year, but it also marked the fifth Megabucks jackpot claimed since the much-publicised game redesign on November 12, 2023. This revamp, celebrated by players, included slashing the number of game numbers from 49 to a more palatable 44, in effect enhancing the jackpot odds and doubling non-jackpot prizes, according to MassLive.
Megabucks lure players every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 9 pm, with tickets coming in at a modest $2. Choices have been simplified; players now pick five numbers from a smaller pool, 1-44, to lay their stake in the heavily-contested lottery battlefield. The ticket holder has a one-year grace period from the drawing date to step forward and claim the jackpot pile,
The multimillion-dollar haul wasn't the only win for the state's gamblers. On the same day, one lucky participant won $200,000 from the “Lucky 13″ scratch ticket, sold at Wilbur Liquors in Somerset. Moreover, the “Diamond Deluxe” scratcher minted two more winners of $100,000 each, one at Sunny’s Convenience in Taunton and, the other at Rock and Smoke Shop, in Worcester. Meanwhile, at least 777 prizes worth $600 or more were claimed statewide on Monday, spreading winning streaks across Springfield, Worcester, and Boston, which counted 68 high-tier prizes in its haul, revealed the Massachusetts State Lottery's comprehensive daily winner's list, as per MassLive.
