Memorial Regional Hospital is set to improve the maternity experience in South Florida with its "Labor of Love" initiative, featuring a major overhaul of its Family Birthplace. The ambitious project, which comes with a $68 million price tag, focuses on the facility’s redesign and expansion. Providing specialized care for high-risk pregnancies and a more welcoming environment for all families.

This next-level upgrade spans a generous 59,150 square feet and is designed to serve as a thoroughfare for expectant mothers grappling with complex conditions such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. To more effectively cater to such intricate needs, the hospital expansion includes 41 private postpartum rooms and 14 isolation rooms. Shane Strum, CEO of Memorial Healthcare System, stated in an announcement revealed by Instagram, "The expansion provides a modern environment that enhances our ability to offer expert, compassionate care with an emphasis on patient comfort, ensuring a superior experience for both mothers and babies."

Families can also look forward to additional amenities that were highlighted by WSVN, such as partner lounges, a kosher lounge, and spaces dedicated to meditation and education for new parents. Furthermore, a state-of-the-art simulation lab has been introduced to aid clinical training.

The Family Birthplace's extended capabilities will position Memorial Regional Hospital as the go-to destination for delivering more babies than any other facility in Broward County. Elizabeth Justen, chair of the South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners, told in an announcement, “Memorial remains committed to providing a full continuum of care. From prenatal care through infancy and beyond, the teams at Memorial Regional Hospital and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital offer the highest levels of care, regardless of a family’s ability to pay, thanks in part to our donors.”
