A high-speed chase across Wilson and Trousdale counties led to the arrest of an individual driving a stolen vehicle, authorities reported on Thursday. According to WSMV, the pursuit began when Wilson County deputies spotted a silver Nissan Altima at approximately 11:30 a.m., speeding along Highway 231 near the county line.
The suspect, reportedly from Memphis, was seen by Trousdale County Sheriff’s Department deputies turning onto Highway 25 and continuing to "flee recklessly" towards Hartsville, FOX 17 News explained. Spike strips were subsequently deployed in an attempt to successfully bring the vehicle to a stop. The stolen car was confirmed to be taken from Nashville, and a hearing for the driver is pending in General Sessions Court.
In a dramatic culmination of the chase, the driver stopped the car, got out, and attempted to quickly flee on foot before being apprehended by officers. WKRN shared a video posted by the Trousdale County Sheriff’s Department on social media, which showed the car swerving around other vehicles and the driver's eventual attempt to escape law enforcement's grasp. The arrest concluded a high-stakes scenario that put other motorists and law enforcement at risk.
Multiple charges are now being faced by the driver, with the specifics yet to be disclosed. What initiated the chase or prompted the thief to steal the vehicle in the first place still remains unclear. The successful use of spike strips demonstrated an effective measure taken by law enforcement to gradually reduce the car's speed, enabling officers to carry out the arrest without further incident. The suspect’s identity has not been released by the authorities pending further investigation.
