The Department of Transportation and Public Works is all set to host its annual Bus Roadeo at Zoo Miami, bringing together the city's bus operators in a display of skill and competency. As announced, this event will unfold over two days, on Friday and Saturday, spotlighting the city's public servants behind the wheel. The competition is designed to test the operators against an obstacle course mimicking real-world challenges they'd encounter in their day-to-day work.

According to a release obtained by Miami-Dade County Homepage, nearly 40 bus operators will be partaking in this year’s event, to ultimately highlight their commitment to safety and efficiency. Winners of the Bus Roadeo will be acknowledged at an award ceremony and picnic scheduled for noon on Saturday. Furthermore, they're set to represent the DTPW in the 2025 Florida Triple Crown Roadeo coming up next month in Gainesville.

Last year's roadeo was not without its thrills. Joseph Esquilin emerged victoriously among 23 skilled contenders, proceeding to clinch third place at the state competition. This year's participants hope to follow in his footsteps, demonstrating that Miami-Dade has some of the best in the business.

The DTPW has been participating in these events for years, marking a tradition of celebrating the often-overlooked expertise required to safely navigate a city bus. "This highly anticipated competition will highlight the outstanding skills of DTPW’s bus operators celebrating their unwavering commitment to safety, efficiency, and public service excellence," as referenced from the Miami-Dade County Homepage.

For those interested, the Bus Roadeo starts at 8 a.m. on Friday, with the location being Zoo Miami at 12400 SW 152nd St. Miami, FL 33177. Media and guests attending the award ceremony on Saturday should note that space is limited. Potential attendees are advised to contact Deborah Souverain at [email protected] to make reservations.
