Tragedy struck a Murfreesboro home last night as fire engulfed a residence, resulting in heavy smoke and the loss of three dogs.
The Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department (MFRD) was called to the scene after reports indicated smoke billowing from the front door of a house. Upon arrival, MFRD units found thick smoke throughout the property. Despite the freezing temperatures working against them, the firefighters launched an immediate assault on the blaze and began a thorough search of the premises. "Firefighters immediately began fire suppression efforts and conducted a search of the home," the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department stated.
While the homeowner had already evacuated, the firefighters discovered three dogs inside the burning residence. Efforts to rescue them were made, however, the animals did not survive the ordeal. The department's update confirmed, "Firefighters located and removed the animals; unfortunately, they did not survive."
The fire was subsequently extinguished, and the investigation into its cause has been handed over to the Fire Marshal's Office. As for the homeowner, no further assistance was necessary, for, they opted to stay with relatives instead of accepting help from the Red Cross. Responding to the emergency were several units from the MFRD, including Engine 3, Ladder 1, Ladder 4, Ladder 8, Rescue 1, Safety 1, Safety 2, and Battalion Chiefs 1 and 2.
