This information comes following a social media post from the MNPD Hermitage Precinct. The arrests are connected to events that occurred last Saturday, where gunfire erupted in the Napier public housing area and later on Fain Street.
According to the MNPD Hermitage Precinct, the episode began early on a Saturday morning when calls reporting shots fired brought officers to the public housing community. Though no injuries were reported, the aftermath included a damaged residence and vehicle with 15 bullet casings and a live round found at the scene. Later that day, Derrick Booker, aged 43, checked into Vanderbilt University Medical Center with a gunshot wound. Booker, who is now under arrest, was found with a variety of drugs in his possession alongside a pistol, according to police.
The investigation has uncovered that the exchange of gunfire is suspected to have been drug-related. Derrick Booker, allegedly armed with a pistol, and Maurice Maupin, 42, purportedly wielding a rifle, were the key figures in this confrontation. The narrative developed by detectives suggests that following the initial shootout, Maurice Maupin made his way to an apartment on Cannon Street where he is accused of swapping rifles with his brother, William Maupin, 45. Maurice Maupin later allegedly opened fire on Booker's vehicle on Fain Street, inflicting a gunshot wound on Booker's leg.
Maurice Maupin, who has a previous conviction for selling cocaine, turned himself in and is currently facing multiple charges, including felony aggravated assault. He managed to get released from custody on a $55,000 bond. William Maupin, arrested at the Cannon Street apartment, faces charges related to evidence tampering and being an accessory after the fact, and he has also been released on bond. Derrick Booker, whose list of prior convictions includes domestic-related aggravated assault and robbery, was arrested upon his release from the hospital. He is detained without bond while facing various charges, including multiple drug possessions and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon.
