Nashville Police Arrest Trio Tied to Weekend Shootout and Reckless Endangerment in Napier AreaSource: Metropolitan Nashville Police Department

Following an intensive investigation, Nashville police have arrested three individuals in connection to a series of gunfire incidents in the Napier public housing area and on Fain Street last Saturday. As reported by the Metro Nashville Police Department, the episode began when shots were fired early morning, causing damage to a residence and a vehicle but fortunately not resulting in any injuries.

Later that day, at 11:50 a.m., Derrick Booker, 43, arrived wounded at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He had sustained a gunshot in his left thigh that went on to shatter bone, and was discovered with a bag filled with illegal substances and a pistol in his vehicle. Booker, a known felon, was reportedly involved in a shootout that police suspect was drug-related with Maurice Maupin, 42, also a convicted felon, during the initial incident.

Meanwhile, Maurice Maupin allegedly continued the confrontation, later attacking Booker's Hyundai Palisade on Fain Street, which led to Booker's injury. After the initial shooting, Maurice Maupin is said to have switched rifles with his brother, William Maupin, 45, at an apartment on Cannon Street.

Maurice Maupin surrendered with legal representation and has been charged with felony aggravated assault, felony reckless endangerment, and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. According to the MNPD, his criminal history includes a conviction for selling cocaine in 2009, for which he received a 12-year probationary sentence. Despite the severity of the charges, a judicial commissioner set his bond at $55,000, and he has subsequently been released.

William Maupin was apprehended at the Cannon Street apartment and is facing charges that include evidence tampering, accessory after the fact to last Saturday's shooting, and felony reckless endangerment. Similarly, his bond was set at $35,000, and he too has been released from custody.

Following his hospitalization, Booker was taken into custody and is now facing multiple charges, including drug possession counts and felony reckless endangerment related to the earlier gunfire. His extensive criminal background includes multiple aggravated assault convictions and a history of probation sentences. Currently, he remains jailed without bond.
