The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) is gearing up to launch a new microtransit service, dubbed CATS Micro, which aims to elevate connectivity in the northern regions of Mecklenburg County. Starting February 24, residents will be able to hop on these on-demand, point-to-point rides for $2.20—the same fare as local buses and trains, as confirmed by WBTV.
According to QC News, the service promises flexibility and convenience for its users, operating weekdays from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., and weekends starting at 7 a.m. until 7 p.m., the microtransit venture is poised to integrate seamlessly with existing transit systems, and Elizabeth Presutti, CATS' Chief Administrative Officer, expressed optimism about the progressive move stating, "The partnership with Spare and MV transportation marks a significant step forward in enhancing mobility options for our northern towns."
A collaboration with Spare, who will manage booking services, and MV Transportation, known for their paratransit provision, ensures that riders can look forward to an effective mix of tech and transport expertise, this service will include wheelchair-accessible vehicles available upon request, noted by WSOCTV.
