The Metropolitan Police Department has made an arrest in a series of burglary and theft incidents that have left Northwest businesses grappling with losses. On Tuesday, 62-year-old Kevin Fraley from Northwest, D.C., was taken into custody following the issuance of a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, as reported by the MPD's official press release.
Last year, on August 11, 2024, a suspect was caught forcibly entering an establishment on the 1200 block of Wisconsin Avenue, Northwest, at around 12:36 p.m., taking property before fleeing. Not having been able to evade law enforcement for long, Fraley now faces charges of Burglary Two. On a Sunday afternoon, while citizens concerned themselves with the mundanity of weekend leisure, a thief was at work—vanishing with unlawfully acquired gains into the cobwebbed corners of the district.
In addition to the August incident, Fraley is accused of being involved in several other criminal acts. According to the same police announcement, he allegedly committed Theft Two on February 27, 2024, where he entered an office building on the 1600 block of U Street, Northwest, stealing money, then dashed off. Furthermore, only a few months later, on May 26, 2024, he's charged with another Burglary Two after entering a business on the 1700 block of Connecticut Avenue, Northwest at around 7:30 p.m. to purloin property.
The string of alleged thefts continued into the summer when, on June 8, 2024, Fraley reportedly made his way into an office building on the 1200 block of New Hampshire Avenue, Northwest. At about 10:00 a.m., under the concealing light of a clear day, he is accused of stealing property before evasion was once again secured. With each new act, the suspect left behind a trail of CCN numbers—case identifiers that string together a history of losses and the persistence of detectives.
As of the latest updates, Fraley remains a focal point in the ongoing investigations by the Metropolitan Police. The accused awaits his day in court, where the weight of the evidence will determine the path forward.
