A townhouse in Homestead was severely damaged by fire last night, leaving one person seriously injured. According to Local 10, the fire started just before 11 p.m. in the Waterstone Boulevard community. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the scene, encountering heavy flames and smoke, which led to a second alarm for additional personnel.
An adult was airlifted to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital’s trauma center. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. As firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, they continued to monitor the area for any remaining hot spots.
NBC Miami reported that neighboring units were at risk of catching fire. Videos from the scene showed flames tearing through the second floor of the townhouse, while a resident was seen carrying a cat as they observed the fire department’s efforts.
"First time I've seen anything like this. I've been here 14 years, never seen anything like this. I think it's gutted back there," a neighbor told NBC Miami. "My neighbors woke me up by banging on the window, and I was sleep... I walked around—it's bad," the neighbor added.
The fire was reported under control by 2 a.m., but details about the injured person’s condition were not immediately available.
