Keeping the streets of San Carlos a little safer, San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies recently recovered a stolen vehicle and apprehended three juvenile suspects. The action unfolded last Saturday when Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology picked up the stolen car's plate as it cruised near Alameda de las Pulgas and Eaton Avenue. Deputies located the vehicle shortly after and pulled it over without incident.

The recovery of the stolen vehicle didn't just bring relief to the owner. It also highlighted the effectiveness of ALPR technology in tracking and recovering stolen property. Following the alert from the ALPR system, Sheriff's deputies moved quickly, conducting a traffic stop that led to the capture of the driver along with two other youths, each from neighboring Belmont and Daly City, respectively. In a boost for local law enforcement's track record with technology-aided crime-fighting efforts, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office noted, "This case demonstrates how ALPR technology can assist deputies in the apprehension of criminals and the recovery of stolen property."

San Mateo County Sheriff’s office reported that the juveniles were detained and arrested for PC 496(d) – Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. After the arrests, the suspects were released to their respective parents. Authorities acknowledged the cooperation of the involved parties, which allowed for a swift resolution without further complications.
