
In a case that highlights the ongoing battle against domestic violence in San Francisco, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced the conviction of 30-year-old Hugo Urbano De Leon Diaz for making criminal threats and endangering a child. During a recent jury trial, Mr. De Leon Diaz was found guilty on charges of criminal threats (PC 422), child endangerment (PC 273(a)), and brandishing a deadly weapon (PC 417(a)(1)), as reported by the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.
"I would like to thank the jury for their service in this trial," said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins, per the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. "The jury’s verdict holds Mr. De Leon Diaz accountable and sends a clear message that domestic violence is unacceptable, and perpetrators will face consequences. I hope this verdict helps the survivor as she continues to heal from this trauma," Jenkins added. According to the evidence presented, on May 19, 2024, Mr. De Leon Diaz used a 10-inch-long kitchen knife to threaten to quickly kill the victim, precipitating her to seek refuge in another room and make a 9-1-1 call.
The tension-filled incident took place at approximately 8:20 PM when Mr. De Leon Diaz, in a heated rage, began verbally assaulting the victim and hammering on the walls and doors, as recounted by the terrified victim and multiple witnesses, including a four-year-old child. The accused was apprehended by police shortly after the incident and taken into custody without further incident.
With the conviction secured, Mr. De Leon Diaz is out of custody, awaiting sentencing scheduled for February 28.
