Chaos erupted in South Jordan late Friday night when a man was fatally shot following a gunfire exchange with police. As reported by KUTV, the South Jordan Police Department responded to a vehicle theft report near 9400 South and 4600 West at approximately 10:30 p.m., which escalated when the suspect opened fire from within the vehicle, forcing officers to return fire, this began a pursuit that would result in the suspect's death.
The unidentified man fled on foot but was located in a nearby backyard by officers, who were then met with further gunfire, ultimately leading to the suspect's capture and subsequent transport to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, as detailed by Gephardt Daily. During the incident, officers from several agencies came to the scene adding personnel to an already intense and active scene.
According to FOX 13, the area of the shooting will remain inaccessible to residents as the officer-involved critical incident team rigorously works through the investigation, which is standard procedure in such shootings.
