A tragic accident in Tamarac saw the loss of a young woman's life when she was struck by an SUV shortly after disembarking a bus, local authorities reported. Katherine Campbell, 23, was identified as the victim of the incident that occurred Monday afternoon, as per the Broward Sheriff's Office. The collision happened near the intersection of West McNab Road and University Drive.

After alighting a Broward County Transit bus Campbell was jogging across West McNab Road when she was hit by the vehicle, the GMC Arcadia was eastbound and Campbell crossed in front of it, suffering impact on the passenger side—the driver, identified as 41-year-old Jennifer Grote of Fort Lauderdale, remained on scene following the accident. Tamarac Talk stated that the accident occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m. and despite the severity of the events, neither excessive speed nor impairment by the SUV’s driver are being considered as factors by detectives.

Tamarac Fire Rescue services responded swiftly, transporting Campbell to Broward Health Medical Center, however, despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead upon arrival. According to a statement obtained by NBC Miami, "Detectives say the location where Campbell was struck was outside of a designated pedestrian crosswalk and eastbound traffic had a green light."

The Broward Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the details surrounding the accident, seeking to understand how such a collision could have occurred in broad daylight and outside of a pedestrian crosswalk. As the investigation continues, no charges have been filed.
