
Charges have been levied against a 17-year-old boy after an incident involving the discharge of a firearm directed at Chicago law enforcement officers on a recent Sunday evening. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the teenager is accused of attempted murder of a police officer and unlawful use of a weapon—a felony charge.
Responding to reports of a disturbance in the 8200 block of South Coles Avenue at about 7:35 p.m., police were investigating the area when being approached, a young man reportedly opened fire with an automatic weapon in the direction of the officers. The authorities did not return fire and were unscathed if unfolded, as were the officers who didn't discharge their weapons. Pursuing on foot, the police arrested two individuals, both 17 years of age; one is now facing charges.
Recovery efforts resulted in the confiscation of two firearms following the altercation which saw the alleged assailants attempting to evade law enforcement. The ABC 7 Chicago further clarifies that the young man has been charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder in addition to the weapon-related felony.
The case has been referred to the Area Two detectives, who are now tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
