During the forthcoming session, legislators will be laying down the law on the Education Freedom Act, which is slated to boost school choice and supplement public school resources. Additionally, they're set to go over the state's approach for hurricane aftermath and natural disaster strategies, with Hurricane Helene in the rearview mirror. The final piece of this legislative puzzle will be strengthening public safety in light of illegal immigration, a task emphasized as key by the forthcoming Trump administration.
A joint statement featuring Gov. Lee, Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, House Speaker Cameron Sexton, Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson, and House Majority Leader William Lamberth emphasized the urgency of this session. "We believe the state has a responsibility to act quickly on issues that matter most to Tennesseans, and there is widespread support in the General Assembly and across Tennessee for a special session on the most pressing legislative priorities: the unified Education Freedom Act and a comprehensive relief package for Hurricane Helene and other disaster recovery efforts," they stated, as per the Office of the Governor.
