The National Weather Service advisory predicts wind chills as low as 13°F, while the warning expects wind chills as low as 7°F. These conditions pose risks such as frostbite and hypothermia. Extended freezing temperatures could damage water pipes.
The National Weather Service forecast 4 to 8 inches of snow and sleet today, with a 20 percent chance of snow showers before 7 PM. Residents are advised to wrap water pipes, check on vulnerable individuals, and use portable heaters safely. Generators and grills should not be used indoors, and motorists are urged to use caution. It is also recommended to carry essentials like extra flashlights, food, and water in vehicles.
For outdoor animals, owners should provide warm shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Temperatures are expected to rise, with a high near 36°F on Wednesday and near 65°F by Sunday. Showers may occur later in the week.
