While many ushered in 2025 with festive celebrations and the pop of champagne, several Utah families embraced the year's commencement with the arrival of new life. Just minutes past midnight, the first babies of 2025 in Utah were born, marking their entrance into the world with the promise of a fresh start. According to ABC4, these infants were not only the first of the year but the newest members of their respective families.
In the earliest hours of the New Year, Intermountain Riverton Hospital celebrated the birth of a baby girl named Zyani Tala. "Zyani" is believed to be akin to a word meaning "gift from God," while her middle name "Tala" translates to "goddess of the stars" in Tagalog, honoring both the divine and her mother’s Filipino heritage. KSL.com reported on the sentiments of the baby's mother, Marygene Hyatt, who, despite her fear of hospitals, found solace in the kindness radiated by the hospital staff. "Everyone was so kind and smiling and celebrating," Hyatt remarked, echoing the joy that accompanied her daughter's birth.
Considered to be the possible, albeit unofficial, firstborn of the state in 2025, baby Zyani entered the world at 12:03 a.m., as reported by KUTV. This marked not only a personal celebration for the Hyatt family but a communal one for the staff at Intermountain Health, who shared in the delights of a new life beginning on such a hopeful note.
