Tragedy struck early Thursday on the Southwest Side of Chicago when a woman lost her life and a passenger was injured following a collision with a pole. As reported by ABC7 Chicago, the incident occurred around 3:10 a.m. in the 7700 block of S. Cicero Avenue, near the Scottsdale neighborhood.
Driving a Nissan Altima northbound, the 41-year-old woman lost control, which resulted in the fatal crash, hitting a steadfast pole. She was rushed to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn along with the injuries she sustained and was pronounced dead there, as per the information provided by Chicago Sun-Times.
The passenger, a 35-year-old man, sustained what were described as "minor" injuries and was also taken to Christ Medical Center. His condition was reported as fair, and he is expected to recover, which was a small comfort in the wake of such an unnerving event.
The Chicago Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Unit has taken up the investigation to ascertain the cause of the accident. They are looking into why the woman, whose identity has not been released, lost control of her vehicle that ended with a pole shattering the calm of that early morning.
