A tragic collision in Mundelein resulted in the death of a woman early Tuesday morning. The incident, which saw a semi-tractor and a sedan in a catastrophic encounter, was reported at around 1 a.m. near the area of Route 45 south of University Drive, as WGN-TV details. Authorities responded promptly to the tragic scene and subsequently transported one of the drivers, a female, to Condell Medical Center where she later succumbed to her injuries. The crash forced the closure of the area from Route 176 to University Drive.
Further details provided by ABC 7 Chicago reveal that the woman, identified as a 24-year-old, was driving an Acura southbound on IL-45 when she reportedly lost control and collided head-on with the semi. The identity of the woman has not been released by officials.
The driver of the semi, a 44-year-old man, was also taken to the hospital with expectations of a full recovery, as per ABC 7 Chicago. Following the crash, the semi's fully loaded cargo was transferred to another vehicle, indicating the severity of the accident. Although toxicology results are pending, police do not believe that intoxication was a factor in this tragic event.
Footage of the aftermath was captured by Chopper 7, showing as crews worked on the scene around 6:44 a.m. to tow away the white semi. In a statement that suggests normalcy resumed relatively quickly, all roads affected by the incident were reopened by 8:28 a.m.
