A tragic turn of events unfolded in Murfreesboro following a two-vehicle collision at the end of January. The WSMV reports that a 5-year-old child, critically injured from the incident, has passed away over the weekend. The collision, which occurred on Middle Tennessee Blvd. near Haley Road, had already claimed the life of 35-year-old Silvio Victor, a passenger in one of the vehicles involved.
The young victim had been fighting for their life at Vanderbilt University Medical Center but was unable to recover from the injuries. Murfreesboro Police Department's ongoing investigation into the crash is looking into all potential contributing factors.
According to a report by WGNS, the crash occurred as a Mazda sedan attempting a left-hand turn onto Middle Tennessee Boulevard was struck by a Nissan Rogue. The collision was powerful enough to spin the Mazda off the road and finally to a rest against a parked car. "Speed may have played a role," indicated the authorities, suggesting a possible lead in the ongoing investigation into what led to such devastating outcomes.
Detailing the initial response, Rutherford Source reported that Murfreesboro Fire Rescue firefighters had to extricate the trapped, yet properly restrained, child from the wreckage. Immediate medical treatment was provided with the assistance of Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services. Despite these efforts, the young passenger succumbed to their injuries on Saturday, February 1.
