As Atlantans reach for their umbrellas, the National Weather Service predicts a series of showers throughout the week, with varying degrees of likelihood. According to the extended weather forecast that was published earlier this morning, the city may experience intermittent rainfall, starting with a slight chance today, increasing by nighttime.
Starting off with today's conditions, Atlanta is bracing for a mostly cloudy day—temperatures hovering near a pleasant 74 degrees, though you might catch a drizzle before and after lunch, these showers aren’t expected to amount to much during the daytime hours, come nightfall however, the chance of precipitation jumps to 40%, so keep that raincoat handy when you step out for your evening plans. Similar patterns of partly sunny skies followed by an increased likelihood of evening showers are on track for tomorrow, with the thermometer tipping to approximately 72 degrees, a mild breeze bringing gusts that could reach up to 15 mph is also in the forecast, just enough to rustle the leaves, not to disrupt your Sunday leisure.
Looking into the workweek, the National Weather Service suggests showers will become a more frequent visitor, a 20 percent chance of rain on Monday might strike some as negligible, but the probability surges to 70% during the night, suggesting heavier rainfall is on the horizon. Tuesday and Wednesday are slated to soak the city, holding strong at 90% and 80% chances, respectively. The rains are set to taper off by Thursday, though a partly sunny environment with a 50 percent chance of showers persists.
In the latter half of the week, we see a slight reprieve with the chances of precipitation alternating between slight and moderate, Thursday night carries a 20 percent risk of showers and thunderstorms, so you might hear some rumbling as you tuck in, temperatures falling to a cooler 37 degrees, but as Friday welcomes in more sunshine, the possibility of showers remains present at 20 percent, and though it’s unlikely to interrupt your day, it's wise to prepare for a drop or two when you’re heading out into what’s forecasted to be a 60-degree day.
