
A tragic incident unfolded yesterday evening when Craig Spencer, a 57-year-old resident of Bellingham, lost his life after being struck by a vehicle. The accident occurred at approximately 9:42 p.m. near 40 North Main Street.
According to a social media post by the Bellingham MA Police, Officer Dulchinos happened upon the scene where Spencer was struck while attempting to cross the street. Immediately, life-saving measures were employed as additional officers and paramedics from the Bellingham Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter to assist in the efforts. However, despite their attempts, Spencer was later pronounced dead after being airlifted to a trauma center.
The driver of the vehicle in question, a 21-year-old female from Bellingham, stayed at the scene and has been cooperating with officials throughout their investigation. Preliminary information obtained by the police suggests that Spencer was attempting to cross North Main Street when he stepped into oncoming traffic.
The inquiry into the specifics of this incident continues, with the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (CEMLEC) Crash Reconstruction Team and Bellingham Police overseeing the proceedings. No charges have been reported as of now, and early indications suggest no involvement of intoxicants or excessive speed on the part of the vehicle's operator.
