A South Boston neighborhood was the scene of a crime over the weekend, culminating in a suspect's arrest thanks to the sharp-eyed observations of local law enforcement. Yesterday, the Boston Police Department responded to an alarm at a commercial establishment and discovered evidence of a break-in, including a shattered door, disrupted cash registers, and cigarette cartons littering the floor.
As the investigation unfolded, officers reviewed security footage that depicted a suspect collecting multiple cigarette cartons into a green bag. The footage allowed the officers to issue a detailed description of the suspect and canvas the vicinity for any leads. In an intriguing testimony to the department's vigilance, it was the early hours of the following morning when officers patrolling a nearby area recognized a man whose description fit the suspected burglar.
When confronted, the individual fled, prompting a foot pursuit that led to his arrest. According to the Boston Police Department's statement, a green bag containing several stolen cigarette cartons from the earlier break-in at 259 Dorchester Street was recovered upon searching the suspect.
The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Boston resident Brendan Wetherbee, now faces charges for Breaking and Entering Nighttime for Felony, with arraignment proceedings expected to take place in South Boston District Court.
