In a recent crackdown on drug activity, Boston Police Department's Drug Control Units took a man into custody in the Dorchester neighborhood for a litany of drug-related offenses. According to official reports on the Boston Police Department website, Gordon Robinson, 52, from Mattapan, was arrested yesterday morning. During the arrest, officers caught Robinson emerging from a building on Morton Street with unconventional drug-laced candy in his possession.
Prior to stopping Robinson, officers were executing search warrants as part of an ongoing investigation. They noticed the suspect leave 1208 Morton Street, walking towards Old Morton Street, when they pounced, brandishing a warrant specifically targeting his person. Wrapped in colorful lollipops, a hidden menace was found by officers; crack cocaine was within the sweet-looking contraptions.
The investigation didn't stop at the street interception. Another search warrant executed at the aforementioned Morton Street address turned up a larger stash. This included more crack cocaine-laced lollipops, along with additional illegal substances and paraphernalia. Officers retrieved a total of 344 grams of crack cocaine and 452 grams of marijuana, among other items.
In what might seem like a simple confectionery find, the arrest paints a darker portrait of the insidious ways drugs can infiltrate a community. Robinson now faces serious charges including Trafficking of Class B and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D substances. Hidden among the seized assets, a black electronic stun gun was accounted for, leading to an Unlawful Possession of a Firearm charge as well. Not to be dismissed, some $4,134 in cash was also taken as evidence of the illicit operation.
The suspect was swiftly taken into custody and his arraignment is scheduled for the local Dorchester District Court.
