Despite some early precipitation, the temperature is forecast to reach a balmy high near 56 degrees. Residents can expect a south wind to quickly to turn west in the afternoon, possibly gusting as high as 28 mph. The evening, on the other hand, is predicted to have partly cloudy skies with a low around 18 and stronger winds.
According to a report by NBC Boston, the wind and incoming colder air signal a short return of winter conditions. They note that "Colder air is trying with all its might to drop into New England today," which could result in light snow across northern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. The rest of the region might see light rain showers instead of snow. Following the system's departure on Saturday morning, milder air and a bit of sunshine could raise temperatures significantly before a rapid cool down in the evening.
The outlook for Sunday and Monday is clear but brisk, with highs near or just above freezing and wind chills potentially falling into the single digits, the National Weather Service predicts. Later in the week, residents should prepare for a change as Wednesday is expected to bring "a windswept rain" and higher temperatures. NBC Boston suggests that, once again, winter's grip will be temporarily loosened as "milder air will yank us out of the deep freeze and into the 50s for this storm."
