This morning, residents in Burlingame Hills awoke to the roaring urgency of sirens as multiple fire departments responded to a two-alarm fire on Canyon Road. A social media post by CAL FIRE CZU San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit details a collective effort to address the blaze, which included CAL FIRE, San Mateo County Fire, and departments from San Bruno and South San Francisco, along with American Medical Response, San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, and PG&E.
The report noted an early success as the four individuals inside escaped the burning structure, avoiding any injuries. Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to neighboring homes, a challenge given the heavy flames consuming the engulfed house. According to the CAL FIRE CZU San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit, the second alarm was sounded due to the intensity of the fire within the residence, with ongoing efforts aimed at extinguishing flames in the attic.
Amid their fight against the inferno, the CAL FIRE CZU San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit delivered a safety message emphasizing the risk posed by excessive storage of flammable materials. "There were many boxes inside the home. Excessive amounts of cardboard can help fire spread quickly. Try to keep the amount of cardboard in your home to a minimum," the message cautioned residents.
